Eziakonwa captures weekly league honor

GREENVILLE, S.C. – For the second time this season, University of Mount Olive senior middle blocker Amara Eziakonwa was selected as the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week.

A 6-foot middle blocker from Tampa, Fla., Eziakonwa averaged 3.72 points per set behind 38 kills with 14 service aces and 24 blocks, as the Trojans registered a perfect 4-0 mark in conference play.

On Oct. 17, she posted a career-highs six aces and 11 blocks while adding seven kills in a 3-2 win at Belmont Abbey. Eziakonwa collected eight kills and three blocks in 3-2 comeback win over Francis Marion on Oct. 19. She delivered 10 kills on Oct. 19 with four services aces and two blocks in a 3-0 sweep at Southern Wesleyan and closed out the week with 13 kills with four service aces and eight blocks in a reverse sweep over North Greenville, 3-2, on Oct. 20.

Eziakonwa ranks among the top-10 overall in the conference in virtually every statistical category. She ranks second in the conference with 50 service aces this season, only behind teammate Neza Pec with 53 aces. Eziakonwa also ranks second in the league with a .376 hitting percentage and ninth with 249 kills in 93 sets played.
