Mount Olive women collect three wins at Trojan Duals

MOUNT OLIVE – After battling in four dual meets on Sunday afternoon, the No. 20 Trojans registered a 3-1 mark with victories over Emory & Henry, Frostburg State, and Greensboro in Kornegay Arena while competing at the Trojan Duals.
With the results, the University of Mount Olive women’s wrestling team improves to 7-4 this season behind a 3-1 mark at home. The Trojans match their win total from their inaugural season and have faced three nationally-ranked opponents. The only loss for UMO on Sunday was in the final dual against No. 3 ranked King.

Mount Olive over Emory & Henry, 34-14

Against Emory & Henry, sophomore Nia Miranda registered a 10-0 tech fall against Molly Keller in the opening match at 155 before the Wasps countered with a fall in the 170-weight class. Sophomore Jada Arnold (191) made her season debut and delivered a pin over Eryn Hubble to give UMO a 9-5 edge through three matches. Mount Olive received a forfeit at 101 before junior Samantha Miller recorded a 35-second fall in the first period against Mallory Howard at 109. Emory & Henry responded in the 116-weight class with a 10-0 tech fall, but the Trojans extended their advantage with a pair of forfeits, 34-9. In the final match, the Wasps produced a fall in the 143-weight class, as UMO secured the 34-14 win.
Against Frostburg State, Mount Olive received victories in the opening four matches via forfeit to build an early 20-0 lead. At 116, sophomore Gracie Cordasco registered a 31-second fall in the opening period over Aurora Walters before the Bobcats countered with a 5-3 decision in the 123-weight class. Freshman Brielle Bibla answered back with a fall in the first period versus Lillie Costilla at 130 before the Trojans earned three more wins by forfeit to capture the victory, 46-3.
Against Greensboro, the Trojans registered nine wins via forfeit to easily secure the 46-3 victory. In the only face-to-face matchup, Hailie Misplay of Greensboro recorded a 10-6 decision in the 136-weight class.
Against No. 3 King, the Tornado quickly established a 32-0 advantage after winning the initial seven matches while recording four falls and three tech falls. Mount Olive registered its only win at 155 with Miranda producing a first-period fall over Yasmine Oliveira. King finished the contest with two more falls to seal the 42-5 victory.
The Trojans will return to the mat following winter break and travel to Pennsylvania for the Ursinus Duals on Sunday, January 7, starting at 10 a.m.
