Field of Honor returns to WCC

GOLDSBORO — Wayne Community College will host the Goldsboro Rotary Club’s Field of Honor for its fourth year.

The Rotarians bring the Field of Honor flag display to the heart of eastern North Carolina to honor those who, by their lives, honor the flag. Individuals can be honored with a flag in the Field of Honor.

Hundreds of United States flags will fly on the college’s front lawn from Sept. 14 to Nov. 16. The public can visit the exhibition from dawn to dusk daily during this period.

An opening ceremony will be held Thursday, Sept. 14, and the closing ceremony is set for Thursday, Nov. 16, both at 1 p.m. at the site. They will also be streamed live on the club’s (@goldsbororotary) and the college’s (@wayneccnc) Facebook pages.

Flags in the display may be dedicated to active-duty military, veterans, first responders and neighbors to show support and honor. The cost of a flag is $40. A special tag will identify the flag with the name of that honoree as well as the name of the donor. When the display is concluded, donors may accept the flag and its tag as a memento or donate it for use next year.

Five levels of event sponsorships, ranging from $5,000 to $250, are also available.

The flags will be set up in a grid pattern with a tag on each flag marking its location. The location will be indexed, and the index will be available at the sponsor sign. The Goldsboro Field of Honor display is made possible by donations and sponsorships and the efforts of dedicated volunteers who set up, maintain and take down the flags.

Proceeds from the event will raise funds to support charitable programs of Rotary International and the Goldsboro Rotary Club.
