North Duplin destroys Weldon in second round

CALYPSO — The North Duplin softball team defeated Weldon 25-0 in the second round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state playoffs at home May 12.

Kasey Jones, Riley Hatch and Lilly Fulghum all homered for the Rebels.

Reece Outlaw had four hits, three runs, two RBI and a stolen base; Addy Higginbotham had four hits, three runs, two RBI and a stolen base; Jones had three hits, three runs, two RBI and a stolen base; Iala Overton had three hits, three runs and three RBI; Ady Spence had three hits and three runs, Sara Thomas Tucker had two hits, three runs, two RBI, one walk and one stolen base; Hatch had one hit, two runs, two RBI and was hit by a pitch; Fulghum had one hit, two runs and two RBI and M’chelle Jaco had one hit, three runs, one RBI and one walk.

Fulghum was the winning pitcher with two innings pitched. She struck out four. Spence pitched three innings and struck out three. The game was shortened to five innings by the run rule.

North Duplin improved to 19-2 on the season. They are scheduled to face Riverside-Martin at home in the third round May 16.
