Davis, Stanley named to IWLCA all-region team

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive graduate student duo of Ali Davis and Alexis Stanley have been voted to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-South Region Second-Team.

The 2023 Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year, Davis, from Hampstead, N.H., finished fourth in the conference with 76 points after totaling 62 goals and 14 assists over 17 starts. Davis also delivered a hat trick in the championship final versus Belmont Abbey to secure an 11-9 victory to complete a three-peat for UMO as conference champions. She paced the league with a .708 free-position percentage after scoring 17 goals on free-position chances. Davis tallied at least one point in every game this season while netting at least four goals in nine contests. Additionally, she collected 35 draw controls, 22 ground balls and 14 assists, as the Trojans closed the season with a 14-5 overall record.

Stanley, from Farmington, Minn., was the 2023 Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year this season. She led the defense in virtually every statistical category while receiving all-tournament honors following a championship year. Stanley registered 22 caused turnovers, 52 draw controls and 28 ground balls, pacing UMO in all three statistical groups. She delivered a breakout postseason performance with four caused turnovers, eight ground balls, and five draw controls in a pair of games. Stanley assisted Mount Olive in claiming another undefeated run through conference play and extending its winning streak to 34 straight league wins.

The IWLCA has honored 128 student-athletes in Division II with a selection to one of the All-Region teams for 2023. These student-athletes are now eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-American team. The IWLCA will announce the 2023 All-American teams on May 18.
