North Duplin blanks Cape Hatteras

CALYPSO — The North Duplin softball team defeated Cape Hatteras 10-0 May 9 in the first round of the North Carolina High School Association 1A playoffs.

Addy Higginbotham had two hits, two runs, one RBI and one walk; Iala Overton had two hits, Ady Spence had two hits and one run, Lilly Fulghum had two hits (including a home run), two runs and five RBI; Reece Outlaw had one hit, two runs and was hit by a pitch; Sara Thomas Tucker had one hit, one run and one walk; M’chelle Jaco had one hit, Kasey Jones had one run, two walks and one stolen base and Riley Hatch had one run, two RBI and two walks.

Fulghum was the winning pitcher, working four innings with eight strikeouts. Spence pitched one inning. The game was shortened to five innings by the run rule.

The Rebels improved to 18-2 and are scheduled to host Weldon May 12 in the second round.
