North Duplin advances in extra innings

CALYPSO — The North Duplin baseball team won its first round game in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 1A state playoffs May 9, defeating East Columbus 4-3 in 12 innings.

Tanner Kornegay had three hits, one RBI and two walks; Austin Duff had one hit, one RBI and one walk; Hunt Pate had one hit, one run and one walk; Wesley Holmes had one hit and one run, Tyler Johnsey had one hit, one run and one walk; Richard Noble had one run and one walk, Brady Byrd had one walk and Holden Williams was hit by a pitch.

Noble pitched the first seven innings, giving up no earned runs and striking out 14. Eric Rosas pitched the next four innings and struck out five while allowing one earned run. Esteban Santos-Clark pitched the final inning and was the winning pitcher with one strikeout.

The Rebels improved to 21-3 on the season. They are scheduled to host Falls Lake in the second round May 12.
