Burnette, Faison sweep weekly league accolades

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive men’s track & field team swept the outdoor weekly awards from the Conference Carolinas, as senior Justen Burnette was selected Track Athlete of the Week and senior Joshua Faison was named Field Athlete of the Week.

In his first appearance of the outdoor season, Burnette set an NCAA provisional mark and the fastest time in the Conference Carolinas in the 100 meters at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. The senior from Winston-Salem posted a blistering pace of 10.49 seconds in the 100m preliminaries to hit the NCAA standard and establish the second-best time in the Southeast Region.

A native of Clayton, Faison posted a pair of top-three finishes over the weekend at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. He registered a second-place finish in the discus with a mark of 52.47 meters. Faison finished behind a Division I thrower from Duke, who set the Doug Shaw Stadium record in the event. Additionally, he reached a distance of 16.33 meters in the shot put to place third overall.

Faison has collected the weekly conference accolade a combined four times between the indoor and outdoor season, while Burnette has earned the honor three times.
