UMO junior is men’s lacrosse Player of the Week

MOUNT OLIVE – After a vital second-half performance in the net, University of Mount Olive junior goalie Jacob Brown was selected as the Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Week by the league office on Feb. 13.

A native of Parker, Colo., Brown was pivotal for Mount Olive in its 9-6 victory over Catawba. He put together a stellar performance in net with 14 saves while facing nearly 45 total shots. He posted two shutout quarters while holding the Indians to just two goals in the second half. Brown also tied for the team lead with four ground balls in 60 minutes of action.

In his first year as a starter, Brown has tallied two solid performances at goalie with 26 saves on 77 shots faced while yielding 17 goals. He ranks sixth in NCAA Division II and paces the conference with a .605 save percentage. Brown also sits among the top 10 in the country with an 8.50 goals-against average. UMO men’s lacrosse and Brown will be tested in the coming weeks with three nationally ranked opponents scheduled to close out February.
