Hobbs claims weekly conference honor

MOUNT OLIVE – After establishing a school record over the weekend, University of Mount Olive women’s lacrosse goalie Jane Hobbs was named the Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Week by the league office on Feb. 13.

In her first career start with the program, Hobbs set a school record with 22 saves after facing 38 total shots while grabbing two ground balls in a top-25 nationally ranked contest versus No. 25 St. Leo on Friday, Feb. 10. A native of Hampstead, the junior goalkeeper tallied 13 of her 22 saves in the second half, as the Trojans were edged out 10-8 in the season opener.

In the previous two seasons, Hobbs has served as a reserve goalie for the program and has appeared in 11 games off the bench with 21 career saves. She collects the league honor for the first time in her career and becomes the first goalie to receive the laurel at UMO since Ciara Moorman earned the accolade twice during the 2021 season.
