Casbarro named Baseball Spring Scholar-Athlete of the Year

MOUNT OLIVE – University of Mount Olive senior Jack Casbarro was named the Baseball Spring Scholar-Athlete of the Year Presented by Hudl on Thursday morning, as announced by the Conference Carolinas.

The Scholar-Athlete awards Presented by Hudl are awarded annually to one individual in each Conference Carolinas sponsored sport. The Scholar-Athlete of the Year winners are chosen by the Conference Carolinas Student-Athlete Affairs and Awards Committee. To be considered, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher. In addition, the nominees for the award must have been named all-conference in their sport and also chosen academic all-conference.

Casbarro becomes the fourth UMO baseball student-athlete to garner the honor, joining Antonio Callaway, Justin Carroll and Reed Parris. Mount Olive has earned the accolade more than any other program in the Conference Carolinas since the inception of the award in 2011.

A Mount Olive native, Casbarro was a consensus all-region selection. He finished the year with a .319 batting average while tallying 73 hits, seven home runs and 16 doubles in 55 starts. Casbarro ranked third in the Conference Carolinas with 31 stolen bases while also ranking among the top 10 in doubles and hits. He posted 21 multi-hit performances and 13 multi-RBI games after assisting UMO to its first league tournament title since 2017. Casbarro earned first-team all-conference, all-defensive team honors and was selected to the all-tournament team.

Casbarro recently graduated with his master’s degree in business administration while maintaining a 3.76 grade point average. Additionally, he was a finalist for the Conference Carolinas Murphy Osborne Award and named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
