Maxwell, Abbott named to IWLCA Senior All-Star Game

MOUNT OLIVE – University of Mount Olive graduate student Meagan Maxwell and senior Caroline Abbott were selected for the South Team in the 2023 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Senior All-Star Game, which was played Saturday, June 3, at USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md.

The players selected in each Division were divided into North and South teams. Maxwell and Abbott were two of four Conference Carolinas student-athletes named to the Senior All-Star event with Riley D’Andrea of Belmont Abbey selected to the North team and Brenna Everette of Converse chosen to join the Mount Olive duo on the South team.

A native of Hamburg, N.Y., Maxwell garnered her second straight selection to the all-conference team following another stellar season on attack while assisting Mount Olive to a three-peat in the league tournament. She finished third in the conference with 33 assists while netting 25 goals in 17 starts. Maxwell ranked third on the team with 58 points and added 13 caused turnovers this season. In the postseason, Maxwell tallied six points on three goals and three assists, including a critical three-point performance in the championship game versus Belmont Abbey.

Abbott, from Fallston, Md., earned third-team all-conference honors for a second consecutive year after being a key player on the UMO defense all season. In 16 starts, she registered nine ground balls and three caused turnovers. She helped the Trojan defense that yielded a league-low 155 goals on the season and caused nearly 10 turnovers per contest.
