North Duplin falls in state championship series

RALEIGH — The North Duplin softball team lost to Union Academy in the 1A state championship series of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association playoffs June 2 and 3.

The Rebels lost the first game 13-3 June 2 and the second game 7-4 June 3.

In the first game, Addy Higginbotham had two hits, one run and one RBI; Kasey Jones had one hit, one run and one RBI; Riley Hatch had one hit, M’chelle Jaco had one run, Sara Thomas Tucker was hit by a pitch and Lilly Fulghum had one walk. Fulghum pitched 4 1/3 innings and Ady Spence pitched 1 2/3 innings.

In the second game, Reece Outlaw had two hits (including a home run), one run and three RBI; Jones had two hits, Higginbotham had one hit and one run, Fulghum had one hit, Jaco had one hit and one run, Melany Sanchez had one hit and one RBI and Hatch had one run and two walks.
