Lindblad ties for fourth; Mount Olive finishes second

JACKSON SPRINGS – After featuring all five golfers in the top 15 overall in the field, the Trojans captured second place in the team standings on March 11 while playing at the Laker Spring Shootout hosted by Mercyhurst.

The University of Mount Olive men’s golf team tied its highest team finish this season after placing second with a 31-over 607 (305-302) while shooting the lowest final round as a team. Sandhills Community College earned the tournament title by 14 strokes with a 17-over 593 (287-306), and Shepherd rounded out the top three after carding a 54-over 630 (307-323) at the nine-team event.

Freshman Max Lindblad paced the team and tied for fourth overall on the individual leaderboard with a six-over 148 (74-76). It marks the second top-five finish in his career after entering play tied for the team lead in scoring average.

Fellow freshman Jonas Arnstrom Bakker jumped 16 places in the individual standings to finish tied for sixth place after carding a nine-over 153 (80-73), his highest career finish. Senior Cade Hancock also tied for sixth with a nine-over 153 (74-79), while freshman Rasmus Ronnberg placed ninth in a field of over 50 golfers with a 10-over 154 (77-77). Sophomore Justin Sterner rounded out the team scoring with a 13-over 157 (81-76), climbing 12 positions on the final day to place 13th overall.

Ben Read of Sandhills Community College won the individual title by five strokes after firing a five-under 142 (69-73).
