UMO claims three dual meet wins at Star City Classic

SALEM, Va. – The University of Mount Olive men’s wrestling program secured three dual meet victories over Ferrum, Roanoke and Greensboro at the USMC Star City Classic on Nov. 19.

With the wins, the Trojans improved to 4-0 this season in dual meets after facing three schools from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Mount Olive defeated Ferrum 38-9, Roanoke 27-13 and Greensboro 43-9.

Additionally, the Trojans placed eight wrestlers on the podium following the individual competition.

Mount Olive featured five wrestlers with perfect 3-0 marks in the dual meet competitions. Redshirt freshman Dallas Wilson (149) recorded a 9-0 major decision over Hayden Funck (Ferrum) and collected an 8-7 decision versus Jarrod Pominville (Roanoke) while claiming his final win via forfeit. Redshirt junior Michael Vernagallo (157) went undefeated after securing a 14-11 decision versus Elijah Martin (Ferrum), a win via fall (0:25) against Zane Cox (Roanoke) and a 16-0 technical fall over Kalvin Khang (Greensboro).

Sophomore Jake Nicolosi (165) notched a fall victory (5:28) over Christian Hite (Ferrum) while also collecting a 3-0 decision against David Reid (Roanoke). The Haverhill product finished the day with a forfeit win versus Greensboro. Redshirt freshman Seth Thomas (174) also registered a perfect record with all wins coming via different results. He recorded a 14-4 major decision over Mateo Villalobos (Ferrum) and a 9-4 decision against Kyle Lee (Roanoke). Thomas also put together an excellent performance to claim a 24-8 technical fall versus David Miller (Greensboro).

Sophomore Jonathan Clack (197) completed a 3-0 performance after collecting all victories via fall. He defeated Braden Homsey (Ferrum) (1:47), Cam Cavins (Roanoke) (4:19), and Joseph Akers (Greensboro).
