Marto tabbed as Third Team All-American

MOUNT OLIVE – University of Mount Olive graduate student Mike Marto has been named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II Third-Team All-American as a face-off specialist.

Marto becomes the 19th USILA All-American selection in the 11-year history of the UMO men’s lacrosse program and the first face-off specialist to garner the accolade for the Trojans. The New Jersey native was recently selected USILA First Team All-Region, All Conference Carolinas First Team and was named to the USILA Senior All-Star Game. Marto was one of eight student-athletes from the Conference Carolinas to be voted to the USILA All-American Teams.

In 15 games, Marto ranked among the top face-off specialists in NCAA Division II after finishing second with a .691 face-off percentage (239 of 346) this season. He claimed at least 15 face-offs in nine contests, including four games with 20 or more face-offs collected. Marto also finished second on the team with 65 ground balls while matching a season-high with three goals. In his five-year career at UMO, Marto has won nearly 600 face-offs while boasting a .641 face-off percentage in 52 games played.
