Mount Olive competes at Final Qualifier

MOUNT OLIVE – In the final home meet of the season, the University of Mount Olive women’s track and field program competed in the Final Qualifier at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex on May 14.

After a record-breaking performance on May 13, the 4×400 relay team of sophomore Natalyah Wilson, sophomore Vinesha Briggs, senior Jaiden Moody and freshman Channie Jefferson posted another NCAA provisional mark, but fell short of their previous time after crossing the line in 3 minutes, 45.52 seconds while being the only team to compete in the event.

Senior Mary Brigid Keck delivered another outstanding performance in the hammer throw after hitting a distance of 56.35 meters to finish in first place and post an NCAA mark. She currently ranks 11th in NCAA Division II in the event. Additionally, she registered a season-best mark in the discus of 43.22 meters on Sunday to place fifth in the field.

Junior Danielle Trimbur placed first in the javelin following a toss of 42.69 meters to reach the NCAA standard after setting her season-best mark May 13 with a distance of 43.73 meters. Freshman Kenisha Barnes established a personal record in the discus after producing a mark of 35.68 meters.

Sophomore Karla Hormazabal finished in second in the triple jump with a distance of 11.73 meters to fall just short of her personal record set at the conference championships last month (11.76m).

The 2023 NCAA championships will take place on Thursday, May 25 through Saturday, May 27 in Pueblo, Colo.
