Southern Wayne loses in playoffs

WILSON — The Southern Wayne baseball team lost in the first round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3A state playoffs 14-4 in an away game at Hunt May 9.

Cuyler Daly had one hit and one RBI, Drew Sweet had one hit, one run and one walk; Tyler McKee had one hit and one RBI, Hayden Waller had one hit, one run, one walk and one stolen base; Alex Ferrell had two runs, one walk and was hit by a pitch; Jake Coates had one RBI and one walk, Tyler Odom had one walk and Dylan Daniels had one walk.

Sweet pitched 2 2/3 innings and Odom pitched 1 1/3 innings. The game was stopped after the top of the fifth due to the run rule.

The Saints finished the season with a 15-8 record.
