No. 42 Mount Olive collects win at King
BRISTOL, Tenn. – To begin the final week of the regular season, the No. 42 Trojans secured a 5-0 win on the road at King in Conference Carolinas action on April 11.
With the win, the University of Mount Olive women’s tennis team improved to 10-10 this season with a 6-1 mark in league action. The Trojans remain among the top three in the conference standings with three matches left. Meanwhile, King dropped to 4-12 overall behind an 0-10 record in league play.
Mount Olive captured the doubles point after registering a sweep in all three positions on Tuesday. At the first slot, senior Liza Voloshyna and junior Nele Weber defeated Deniz Aytun and Mishka Koricinova by a 6-1 margin to improve to 13-3 as a duo this season. Senior Ingrid Montserrat and freshman Oriana Izarra clinched their seventh straight win after posting a 6-2 win at second doubles over Mireia Mas Ortega and Neem Shamsuddin. Junior Jessica Aylward and freshman Laura Servien won by default in the third position following a withdrawal.
The Trojans secured the match victory after winning four singles matches against the Tornado. At first singles, Montserrat claimed a win by a score of 7-5, 6-1 over Aytun to improve to 4-2 in league contests. Izarra delivered a victory after posting a 6-2, 6-4 win against Shamsuddin in the third position before UMO secured two wins via withdrawal in the fifth and sixth slots. Voloshyna had her match go unfinished following the previous results with the contest tied 4-6, 6-3 versus Koricinova. The match scheduled in the fourth position had no result.
