Davis, Stanley win league awards

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive women’s lacrosse team swept the weekly conference honors from the Conference Carolinas, as graduate student Ali Davis was named Offensive Player of the Week and graduate student Alexis Stanley was chosen Defensive Player of the Week.

A native of Hampstead, N.H., Davis recorded 14 points with eight goals and six assists, as the Trojans went 2-0 in conference play and won their last 30 conference matches. The midfield/attack totaled a career-high five assists with one goal while adding four draw controls in a 20-1 win over Chowan. On Saturday, Davis scored a career-high seven goals while totaling one assist and two ground balls in a 19-14 victory over Belmont Abbey.

A graduate student on defense from Farmington, Minn., Stanley registered seven draw controls, three caused turnovers and two ground balls in a 2-0 week for the Trojans. She produced three draw controls and a solid defensive performance in the win over Chowan on Tuesday. Over the weekend, Stanley caused three turnovers with two ground balls and four draw controls in the victory against the Crusaders.

Davis ranks in the top 15 in the NCAA Division II with 42 goals and 3.82 goals per game while pacing the Conference Carolinas with a .737 free position percentage. On the defensive side, Stanley leads the team with 14 caused turnovers and ranks second with 34 draw controls.
