Montserrat wins weekly tennis honor

MOUNT OLIVE – After posting an undefeated mark in three conference matches, University of Mount Olive senior Ingrid Montserrat was named the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week for women’s tennis.

A 5-foot-8 senior from Tarragona, Spain, Montserrat recorded a 3-0 record in both singles and doubles play, as the Trojans claimed three league victories at home.

Playing the first position in singles, she posted a 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 comeback win over Feidi Abreu Rodriguez of Chowan on Tuesday. Over the weekend, Montserrat delivered a straight-sets win 6-3, 6-3 against Tonya Glogowski-Watson of Converse before defeating Kayla Vaughan of Belmont Abbey by a score 6-4, 7-5.

At second doubles, Montserrat alongside freshman Oriana Izarra won all three matches, starting with a 6-2 victory over Sreshta Puducheri and Selene Kentish of Chowan. On Friday, the duo registered a 7-6 (7-2) win versus Natalie White and Sofia Giaraldo-Jimenez of Converse before closing the weekend with a 6-4 decision over Vaughan and Lily Aranyos of Belmont Abbey.

Montserrat holds a 3-1 record in conference singles matches in the No. 1 position while boasting a 12-4 overall record in doubles action with Izarra.
