Brown receives First Team All-Region honors

MOUNT OLIVE – University of Mount Olive senior guard Michael Brown was selected to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Southeast Region First Team.

Brown received first-team all-region laurels for the first time in his career after one of the best single-season performances in UMO history. Last week, he garnered All-Conference Carolinas First-Team status and became just the third Mount Olive player in the previous seven years to earn the honor.

A native of Winchester, Va., Brown is one of nine players in all three NCAA Divisions to eclipse 200 assists while ranking seven among that group with 207 assists this year. He shattered the single-season school record with 718 points (23.2 points per game) while producing five 30-point games, including the second-most points in a game at UMO with 42 points on Feb. 16. Brown led multiple categories in the Conference Carolinas, including assist-to-turnover ratio (2.35), assists per game (6.7), field-goals made (230) and minutes per game (38.2).

He is the only player in UMO history to tally more than 1,500 points and 600 assists in a career. Brown joined his current head coach Dory Hines as the only two individuals to reach the 600-assist mark at Mount Olive.

With his first-team selection, Brown is now eligible for D2CCA All-America consideration.
