Trojans compete in the Battle of Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Senior Emma Leclercq finished tied for 17th overall, as the University of Mount Olive women’s golf team placed 13th while playing two rounds at the Battle at Hilton Head hosted by Barton Feb. 20 and 21.

The Trojans shot a 67-over 643 (320-323) while playing the Robert Trent Jones Course at Palmetto Dunes. Wingate captured the tournament title by seven strokes with a 16-over 592 (304-288) after firing even-par as a team during the final round of play. Carson-Newman finished second overall in the team standings with a 23-over 613 (298-301) and Lee placed third at 37-over 613 (294-319). The event featured nearly 100 golfers from 18 teams, including five schools from the Conference Carolinas.

Leclercq paced the team for the fourth time this season after tying for 17th with a nine-over 153 (73-80). She tied for the team lead with three birdies and 22 pars over the two rounds, including a birdie on the par-three eighth. Leclercq claimed her third top-20 finish of the year and carded her lowest round of the season with a one-over 73 on Day 1.

Junior Victoria Morelli tied for 23rd place with a 12-over 156 (77-79) and tied for the team lead with 22 pars. Freshman Violette Daudin tied for 54th overall with a 21-over 165 (84-81) behind 13 pars and two birdies, while senior Grace Olmstead carded a 26-over 170 (86-84) to tie for 67th overall in the field while registering three birdies. Senior Elise Davies rounded out the team scorers and placed 70th with a 27-over 171 (85-86) with 15 pars.

Senior Ariana Castro of The Savannah College of Art and Design earned medalist honors by two strokes with a one-under 143 (71-72).
