UMO features four wrestlers on the podium at Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Freshman Isabel Rodriguez finished runner-up in the 123 weight class on Feb. 5, as the Trojans featured four wrestlers on the podium at the Limestone Open.

The University of Mount Olive women’s wrestling team finished fifth in a field of 12 teams with eight wrestlers competing in seven different weight classes.

Rodriguez placed second overall at 123 after opening the competition with a fall. She followed up with back-to-back technical falls to advance to the finals. Rodriguez battled in the championship match before suffering a late loss via fall. She received runner-up in the weight class behind a 3-1 record on Sunday.

Freshman Chloe Lawler finished in fourth place with a 3-2 overall record in the 136 weight class. Lawler registered a quick fall in the first period before winning by a 10-0 technical fall in the quarterfinals. She suffered a 10-0 technical fall loss, but responded with a victory via fall in the consolation semifinals. In the third-place match, Lawler fought a tightly contested bout but fell by an 11-7 decision.

In the 191-weight class, freshman Jada Arnold reached the podium with a fourth-place finish. She claimed a win in the quarterfinals with a pin before suffering a loss via fall. Arnold answered back with another win in the consolation semifinals by fall, but lost in the third-place match by a 10-0 technical fall.

Freshman Gracie Cordasco placed fourth overall at 116 and opened the day with a bye. In the following round, she suffered a 10-0 technical fall loss before rebounding with a 12-2 technical fall victory in the consolation semifinals. In the third-place bout, Cordasco was defeated via fall.
