Board narrows consultants list; honors previous chair

The Wayne County Board of Education honored Don Christopher West for his service as chair during a special called meeting Dec. 21.

GOLDSBORO — At a special called meeting Dec. 21, the Wayne County Board of Education narrowed the list of consultants for its superintendent search and honored previous board chair Don Christopher West.

After some discussion, the board agreed to reduce the number of consultant proposals that it had received to help lead its superintendent search and selection process. The board then reduced the number of proposals from six to three by having each board member vote for their top three.

Ray and Associates of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and the Masonboro Group of Wilmington were the top two choices. After a tie for the third spot, a second vote ranked BWP and Associates of Libertyville, Ill. third.

The board agreed to interview the three firms at a special called meeting in January, giving each search firm 30 minutes to present information and 15 minutes to respond to questions. The two potential dates for the special called meeting are Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 3 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 3 p.m.

West was presented with a plaque in honor of his service as chair from Dec. 17, 2018 through Dec. 5, 2022.

The board also approved a student transfer report.
