UNC Wayne named one of best maternity hospitals

GOLDSBORO — UNC Health Wayne has announced that it’s maternity service line has received national recognition by being named as one of the Money-Leapfrog Best Maternity Care Hospitals.

As a non-profit organization, the Leapfrog group works to help patients make informed decisions about their health care. This year, the Leapfrog group partnered with Money to identify the hospitals that provide the best maternity care. The information collected is from voluntary surveys focusing on patient safety and quality and assists in determining a hospital’s Leapfrog letter grade and other recognitions.

To become eligible for such recognition, hospitals must carry an A letter grade with Leapfrog and meet measures of excellence in the management of heart health, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or coronary bypass surgery. Recently, UNC Health Wayne was ranked high performing in heart failure, kidney failure, stroke, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by US News & World Report’s “America’s Best Hospitals 2022-2023” and received their third consecutive A from the Leapfrog group.

UNC Health is honored to have been ranked as one of the hospitals where patients can receive the best maternity care. “To be nationally recognized by a prestigious group validates our team’s efforts in providing the best quality care to our patients,” says UNC Health Wayne President and CEO Jessie L. Tucker III. “This recognition and other recent achievements demonstrate UNC Health Wayne’s shift to enhancing our commitment to our community and those we serve.”

Currently, UNC Health Wayne is undergoing a rebranding initiative focused on strengthening its partnership with UNC Health and leveraging the technology and expertise of a large health system. “While we are still in the initial phases of rebranding, we have strategically developed ways to enhance our commitment to the quality of care delivered to our patients. It is encouraging to see that those efforts have produced an impact that can be recognized at the national level”, said Ken Gerrard, chairman of the UNC Health Wayne Board of Directors.
