Harrison named UNC Wayne VP of human resources

Doug Harrison is the new vice-president of human resources at UNC Health Wayne.

GOLDSBORO — Following an extensive search, UNC Health Wayne announced Doug Harrison, acting interim vice-president of human resources, has permanently transitioned into the role.

While providing interim support to UNC Health Wayne, Harrison’s primary role has been as the UNC Health System Director of Talent. Within this role, he developed and lead strategic initiatives focused on recruitment and retention, with a focus on nursing.

With more than 29 years of proven success in human resources, Harrison has devoted his career to engaging teammates and cultivating a culture of inclusivity and excellence. Serving in leadership roles in Wilson Medical Center, Wake Med, Johnston Health and Vidant Health, he has a unique understanding of North Carolina’s workforce in a healthcare setting.

Harrison earned a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resource Administration. Additionally, he holds a Senior Certified Professional HR certification from the Society of Human Resource Management and the Human Resource Certification Institute.

During his time as interim, Harrison has identified a number of opportunities to better engage teammates and enhance the organizational culture in a way that would positively impact the recruitment and retention of top talent. In his new role, he will oversee human resource strategic planning to include recruitment, leadership development, teammate engagement and compensation and benefits.
