Faison breaks school record in season opener

WINSTON-SALEM – Senior Joshua Faison broke his own all-time school record while placing third overall in the shot put on Dec. 3, as the Trojans opened the season at the Visit Winston-Salem Kick-off held at the JDL Fast Track.

Faison broke the school record on his fifth attempt in the shot put with a distance of 16.26 meters. He finished third in the event behind two Division I throwers from Wake Forest, including Thomas Kitchell, who earned All-ACC First-Team honors in 2022. Faison is a two-time conference champion in the shot put and a three-time All-Region recipient during the indoor season.

Sophomore Nicholas Cloud also qualified for the league championships in the shot put at the season-opening event. He placed fourth overall with a personal record of 15.34 meters, which now ranks third all-time in program history.

In the weight throw, the Trojans featured three throwers in the top 10 with all individuals reaching the conference standard. Lynwood Smith-Fort’e finished fifth overall in the event with a mark of 16.73 meters behind a pair of Division I athletes from Wake Forest and Duke. Sophomore Israel Long placed seventh with a personal record of 15.52 meters and now sits fifth all-time in team history. Senior Dorian Tolbert rounded out the group with a personal record of 15.22 meters, which ranks seventh all-time in school history during the indoor season.
