Mount Olive to hold Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting

MOUNT OLIVE — The Mount Olive Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. and the town’s Christmas Tree Lighting is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 2 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

There are approximately 140 entries scheduled to participate in the parade, including of course, Santa Claus.

Lineup for the parade will begin at 9 a.m. Carver Elementary School, 400 Old 7 Springs Road. The parade begins at 10 a.m. There will be no parking on College and Center streets to allow room for floats, large trailers and fire trucks to pass by. Handicapped parking will be available in the 200 block of N. Center Street, the same block and side where Wells Fargo is located.

The tree lighting will be held at the Southern Bank Parklet, 800 N. Breazeale Avenue. Events will include visits with Santa, an outdoor Christmas movie double feature, letter writing to Santa and Christmas cookie decorating.

Popcorn and drinks will be sold during the event and Mt. Olive Pickle Co. will be offering free PicklePAKS. Bring lawn chairs and/or blankets for the movies.

Parents and guardians are asked to talk to their children and make sure they don’t get close to any parade vehicles to pick up candy.
