Wayne County DSS celebrated Adoption Day

GOLDSBORO — The Wayne County Department of Social Services celebrated National Adoption Day Nov. 19 by wearing green and inviting the public to learn more about adoption and foster care. National Adoption Day is a collective effort to raise awareness of all the children waiting to be adopted from foster care in the United States.

National Adoption Day is observed annually on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. It is part of the larger National Adoption Month celebration. All children deserve a safe, loving and supportive environment to grow. This initiative spreads awareness about adoption and sheds light on the thousands of children waiting for families. November allows everyone to get involved by encouraging neighborhoods, communities, cities, and states to get involved.

Adoption is designed to help children become a part of a new family when they can not return to their biological family. Adoption also provides a permanent safe, and stable home for children. Even though Wayne County is not an adoption agency, there is a need for adoptive parents when children are unable to return home because of abuse, neglect, or dependency.

For more information about the adoption process, contact an adoption social worker by calling the Wayne County Department of Social Services at 919-705-6533.
