Mount Olive competes at event in Georgia

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Senior Emma Leclercq finished tied for 11th overall, as the University of Mount Olive women’s golf team placed 11th while playing two rounds at the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate hosted by Lincoln Memorial.

The Trojans shot a 56-over 632 (307-325) while playing the Pine Lakes Course at the Jekyll Island Golf Club. The host Railsplitters claimed the tournament title by three strokes with a 26-over 602 (288-314) after shooting even-par as a team during the opening round. UNC-Pembroke placed second in the team standings with a 29-over 605 (299-306) and Texas A&M International finished third at 31-over 607 (302-305). The event featured nearly 100 golfers from 17 teams, including eight schools from the Conference Carolinas.

Leclercq led the team with a six-over 150 (74-76). She totaled four birdies over the two rounds, including three on the front nine. She also tied for the seventh in the field with 25 pars and has now been the team’s top finisher in both events this fall, while posting a scoring average of 75.25 strokes.

Junior Victoria Morelli posted a 10-over 154 (74-80) to tie for 22nd overall. She carded 22 pars and fired three birdies while posting a career-low round of 74 during the first round of play. She registered all her birdies during the opening day, including back-to-back on the par-four second and par-three third.

Senior Elise Davies tied for 58th place with a 20-over 164 (80-84) after tallying 17 pars and one birdie over the two-day event. Freshman Nele Halbach shot a 22-over 166 (79-87) to tie for 71st overall behind 18 pars and a birdie. Senior Grace Olmstead rounded out the scoring and tied for 76th place with a 24-over 168 (83-85) with 18 pars and one birdie.
