WCPS invites families to ‘Let’s Go to School’ event

GOLDSBORO — Wayne County Public Schools is working to help parents prepare their children for Kindergarten.

The school district will hold a special Early Education Seminar on Saturday, April 1 at the H.V. Brown Cultural Center and Neal Stitt Building, at 801 Poplar Street in Goldsboro. The event is free for registrants and will kick off at 10 a.m.

The seminar’s theme is “Let’s Go To School” inspired by the children’s book “The Pigeon HAS to Go to School” by Mo Willems. Families with children ages 0-5 are encouraged to attend.

“Our intention is to create an engaging event to help parents/guardians feel more at ease as their children transition between home and school,” said Andrea Freile, WCPS family engagement and communications coordinator. “We will have interactive training sessions led by education leaders on key topics such as emotional tools, overviews of skills and services, and answers about language, literacy and cognitive skills.”

The “Let’s Go To School” event has a goal of helping support children in early education while also strengthening school-family relationships in preparation for Kindergarten. Community agencies such as the Wayne County Partnership for Children and the Wayne County Public Library will also share information and resources.

Transportation, interpreters and childcare are available upon request. In addition to receiving lunch and a free copy of the book, “Let’s Go to School,” any children who attend can expect food, a birthday party for The Pigeon and party favors.
