Honor Our Firsts helps expand memorial on Wayne Community College campus

GOLDSBORO – The Honor Our Firsts Board has donated $1,000 from funds raised through their annual gala to help expand the first responders memorial on Wayne Community College’s campus.

The memorial honors law enforcement officers, firefighters and EMS workers who lost their lives in service to Wayne County since 1900. Funded through donations, it is housed at the College.

Prior to this structure, Wayne County did not have a memorial to honor first responders who died in the line of duty.

The addition will include two black granite stones to flank the original memorial with a scripture and the same emblems that are on the current memorial.

“Our mission is to honor our first responders for their sacrifices and dedication to public service. We are proud and humbled to be a small part of helping to expand the memorial that honors those who have given the ultimate sacrifice,” said Honor Our Firsts Founder Liz Arnette.

“While we hope another name never needs to be written on the memorial, we are thankful for the community efforts to create a permanent fixture that will honor these brave men and women for their sacrifices.”

In addition to the donation from the Honor Our Firsts Board, private donations have also been given for the memorial expansion.
