University of Mount Olive releases Homecoming schedule

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive will celebrate its 2023 Homecoming weekend November 17-19. 

“Homecoming is always a great way to reconnect, rekindle old friendships and revisit the growing UMO campus.  We can’t wait to welcome our alumni family home,” said Julie Graham, UMO Alumni Association President.

Festivities will begin on Friday, November 17, at Southern Wayne Country Club with the UMO Alumni Golf Tournament.  Lunch, which will be provided, is set for 11 a.m., with tee times set for noon.  The cost to play is $75 per person or $300 per team.

On Friday at 7 p.m., in Kornegay Arena, the Trojans will take on Elizabeth City State University in the first game of the Pickle Classic basketball games. Advance tickets go on sale starting October 15 and ending November 7.  Advanced tickets cost $18 for the weekend.  Tickets at the door will cost $12 per day.  Tickets are available here or by scanning a QR code and downloading the Hometown ticketing app.

Saturday’s activities will get underway at 7:30 a.m. with the annual Trojan Trot 5K walk/run set to start in front of Kornegay Arena. Registration is required to participate.

The UMO Annual Alumni Association Meeting will take place from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. in the Video Conference Room 114/115, located in the Communications Building, and at 11, the Mount Olive Women’s basketball team will take on Virginia Union University in the Kornegay Arena for a Pickle Classic Basketball game.

Also, at 11, there will be a dedication ceremony for the Carl Lancaster Training Facility. Registration is required to attend the ceremony.

At noon, a Ballpark Lunch and Home Run Derby will take place at Scarborough Field. Following this event, several alumni will receive recognition during the Annual Alumni Awards Ceremony scheduled for 2 p.m. in Rodgers Chapel

The UMO Athletics Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony will take place at 3 in Southern Bank Auditorium.

Saturday’s events will wrap up with the Pickle Classic basketball game against Georgia Southwestern University in Kornegay Arena at 7 p.m..  The classes of ‘73, ‘98, ‘13, and ‘18 will receive special recognition.

On Sunday, November 19, alumni can enjoy breakfast with UMO President H. Edward Croom in the Hennessee Room from 8-9 a.m., followed by a Memorial and Worship Service at Rodgers Chapel at 9:30 a.m.
