Trojans earn USMC-AVCA Team Academic Award

MOUNT OLIVE – For a seventh consecutive year, the University of Mount Olive men’s volleyball program was a recipient of the United States Marine Corps and American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award.

This year marked an all-time record number of programs honored for their academic achievements with 1,333 collegiate and high school volleyball teams recognized. The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.

The Trojans were one of 43 collegiate men’s volleyball programs from the NCAA and NAIA to earn the academic honor, including two programs from Conference Carolinas (UMO and Belmont Abbey). This season, the men’s volleyball program boasted a 3.37 GPA as a team with eight student-athletes posting a 3.5 GPA or higher.
