Mount Olive receives ITA academic honors

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive men’s tennis team garnered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Award and seven players were named to the ITA Scholar-Athlete team.

Rising senior Diego Ortega Cadahia was honored for the second time in his career at UMO. Six additional student-athletes were recognized by the organization for the first time, including Kabir Chhabria, Niklas Gruenefeldt, Daniel Hammond, Bram Poel, Oliver Winterhagen and Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira. It marked the fourth time in the previous five years that the Trojans were honored by the ITA.

To earn ITA All-Academic Team status, a team must have a cumulative team grade point average of 3.2 or above. In order to receive ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, a student-athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.5 and be enrolled for the current academic year.

Mount Olive finished with a 12-10 overall record with a 4-4 mark in conference action. The Trojans advanced to the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Championship after registering a pair of postseason victories.
