George, Jeffries voted to ABCA All-Defensive Team

MOUNT OLIVE – Sophomore third baseman Cooper George and junior outfielder Dylan Jeffries were both selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association NCAA Division II Southeast Region All-Defensive Team.

A native of Bluffton, S.C., George garnered the all-defensive team honor at third base after starting nearly 20 games at the position. He split time between three positions during the season while playing a majority of conference contests at third and earning Conference Carolinas All-Defensive Team honors. George boasted a .977 fielding percentage with just six errors and was involved in 22 double plays for the Trojans. Additionally, he was voted second-team all-conference after starting 54 games with a .350 batting average as well as 40 RBI and 45 runs scored. According to the NCAA statistics, George ranked 11th in the league with 71 hits and was the toughest player to strike out in the conference.

Jeffries, from Nykina in Columbus County, started 54 games in center field and secured the all-defensive accolade after posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 134 putouts and two assists. After a breakout junior campaign, he received his first nod to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association all-region team in mid-May. Jeffries ranked among the top 10 in the Conference Carolinas in several offensive categories, including doubles, runs scored, stolen bases, and walks. He finished the year with a .340 batting average with a career-high 10 home runs while pacing the team with 22 multiple-hit performances. Additionally, Jeffries garnered second-team all-conference and all-defensive status in the league.

The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division II All-America Committee.
