Martin earns CSC academic honor

MOUNT OLIVE – University of Mount Olive senior Jordan Martin was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.

The 2023 Academic All-District Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. With this honor, Martin is eligible for consideration on the CSC Academic All-American Team that will be announced at the end of the month.

Martin, from Eden, competed in five combined events throughout the indoor and outdoor season, while setting three personal records. During the winter, he set a personal-best time of 8.43 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles at the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championship and scored points after placing fourth overall in the field. In the outdoor campaign, Martin established a pair of personal record at the Adidas Trojan Challenge in the 110-meter hurdles (15.19) and the 200-meter dash (23.64). He recently graduated this May with his bachelor’s degree in exercise science while maintaining a 3.67 grade-point-average.

To qualify for the academic all-district honors, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and in athletic eligibility, maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA or higher, and have competed in at least 50 percent of the team’s events.
