Cooney, Emanuele garner All-Southeast Region honors

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive junior duo of Courtlynn Cooney and Kylie Emanuele were selected to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Southeast Region Team.

Cooney was first-team all-region in the outfield and Emanuele was second-team as a utility player.

A native of Mechanicsville, Md., Cooney collected her third straight nod to the D2CCA all-region team while earning first-team honors for a consecutive season. The former All-American had another standout season with the Trojans after setting a new single-season school record with a .503 batting average this year. Cooney ranked third in NCAA Division II and led the Conference Carolinas in batting average while totaling 73 hits as the leadoff hitter. She also paced the conference with 36 stolen bases and ranked fourth with a .526 slugging percentage in 145 at-bats. Cooney also received recognition on the Conference Carolinas All-Defensive Team after tallying 65 putouts with a .973 fielding percentage.

With her first-team selection, Cooney is now eligible for D2CCA All-America consideration in the outfield.

Emanuele, from Corona, Calif., garnered all-region honors for a third consecutive season after earning first-team status the previous two years with Mount Olive. She was named to the All-Conference Carolinas first team as a utility player after serving at third base and shortstop throughout the season. A two-time All-American, Emanuele led the team with 13 multi-RBI performances while boasting the fifth-best slugging percentage (.738) in the Conference Carolinas. She finished her junior campaign with a .362 batting average with 10 home runs and 39 RBI while batting in six different spots in the lineup.

Sports Information Directors from Southeast Region schools and conferences selected the two all-region teams.
