Choboy is Regional Player of the Week

MOUNT OLIVE – After receiving Conference Carolinas Tournament MVP honors last week, University of Mount Olive graduate student Landon Choboy was voted the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Southeast Region Player of the Week on May 10.

He went 10-for-23 (.435) at the plate with five homers and 21 RBI, leading the Trojans to the tournament title. He had three separate three-hit games while driving in four runs in three games to go along with a nine-RBI effort. Choboy was three for five with an RBI in the Francis Marion win, followed by a three for four effort with a homer and four more RBI against Belmont Abbey. He then blasted three homers and drove in nine runs against UNC Pembroke to send Mount Olive to the title game. Choboy connected on another homer, driving in four more runs in the championship game.

In his first season with the program, Choboy ranks second in the Conference Carolinas and leads the team with 65 RBI, while sitting among the top five in the league with a .380 batting average. He also paces the team with 17 multi-RBI games, including 10 contests with at least three RBI. He earned his first career NCBWA Southeast Region Player of the Week honor.

The Trojans earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Baseball tournament and will learn their regional seed at 10 p.m. on Sunday, May 14. The selection show will be streamed live at NCAA.com.
