MOUNT OLIVE – For nearly a decade, the University of Mount Olive Alumni Association has offered a travel program for alumni and friends of the university.

Alumni Board member Jennifer Carter, from the classes of 2009 and 2015, went on the inaugural trip to Wales back in 2014. During that journey, Carter created lifelong friends. “It is always good to travel with fellow alumni that love the University as much as I do,” she said.

Since that initial trip, the UMO Alumni Association has visited such places as Spain, Italy and Costa Rica. “Each adventure has been unique and memorable,” said alumnus Romey McCoy. “It has been so nice being able to travel without having to worry about what to do, or where to eat. Everything is planned out, which makes the experience so much more enjoyable.”

This year’s adventure, planned for Oct. 27-Nov. 2, will lead attendees on a magical trip to the “land of fire and ice” as they chase the aurora borealis across Iceland. A starlit cruise will allow guests to search the northern lights. They will travel the “Golden Circle” to renowned natural wonders, and spend time gazing at the Gullfoss waterfall and explosive geothermal fields at Geysir. The seven-day journey will also include a walk on black volcanic sand beaches and a visit to Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs. For bookings made before May 28, guests can receive a $150 trip credit. For more information, contact McCoy at RMcCoy58@aol.com or (919) 819-1420.
