Hancock tied for seventh; UMO fifth overall

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The University of Mount Olive men’s golf team sits fifth overall in the standings while featuring four golfers in the top 20 following the opening round of the Conference Carolinas Championship on April 23. Play continued on April 24.

The Trojans posted a 16-over 304 in the first round at the Preserve at Verdae and sit just five strokes back of second place. Erskine holds an eight-stroke lead in the team standings after firing a three-over 291 on Sunday. Belmont Abbey and Emmanuel are tied for second overall with an 11-over 299.

Senior Cade Hancock leads the team and is tied for seventh overall on the individual leaderboard with a two-over 74. He posted a birdie on the first hole of the tournament while playing the back nine at even par. Hancock carded three birdies and 11 pars over the initial 18 holes and closed his round with a birdie on the par-five, 515-yard 18th.

Freshmen Jonas Arnstrom Bakker and Max Lindblad are both tied for 12th place after shooting a four-over 76 in the first round. Bakker carded eight pars over his opening 11 holes while playing the front and back nine at two-over. Lindblad made a pair of birdies and seven pars over his initial 11 holes while playing the front nine at even-par.

Sophomore Gabriel Ekholm currently sits 20th overall on the individual leaderboard after carding a six-over 78. He registered back-to-back birdies on the fourth and fifth holes while playing the back-nine at two-over. Freshman Rasmus Ronnberg is tied for 28th place and closed his round on Sunday with five pars and a birdie over the final seven holes.

Erskine freshman Tom Bastow holds a four-stroke lead over the field after carding a five-under 67 in the opening round. He collected five birdies, including three on the back-nine.
