Hammond, de Oliveira named to all-conference teams

MOUNT OLIVE – University of Mount Olive junior Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira and freshman Daniel Hammond were selected to the All-Conference Carolinas Teams for men’s tennis.

De Oliveira was named first-team all-conference, while Hammond was voted to the all-conference second-team. The Trojans have featured at least two All-Conference Carolinas recipients dating back to the 2011-12 season while also placing a player on the first-team five straight years.

For the first time in his career, de Oliveira, from Rio Claro, Brazil, was recognized as a first-team all-conference honoree after garnering second-team status in the spring of 2021. He played in the No. 1 position in singles action this season and posted an 8-8 overall record with a 5-3 mark in league action. Playing primarily with Hammond, de Oliveira boasted a 12-3 record with a 4-1 mark at No. 1 doubles.

A native of Whangarei, New Zealand, Hammond received all-conference honors for the first time in his career after an impressive freshman campaign. He registered a 10-4 record while placing primarily in the second slot while holding a 2-0 mark at No. 1 singles. Additionally, alongside teammate de Oliveira, the duo won nine of their final 10 matches at first position, including a nationally-ranked win this year.
