Public invited to Student Showcase at WCC

GOLDSBORO — Wayne Community College invites the public to a showcase of its Global Distinction and Honors students’ work.
The “Global Experience Honoring Your World” event is set for 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 20 in the Wayne Learning Center (building with flag poles) on the college’s main campus in Goldsboro.
“Students taking Honors and Global courses are preparing immersive experiences, interactive exhibits, informational displays and scientific research posters, all related to one or more of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” said Lynn Swafford, a biology instructor and honors program coordinator.
This is the second year that the exhibition has been held. “Last year, many Honors and Global program students created the Global Experience Honoring Your World event,” said Allyson Daly, a WCC English instructor and liaison for the Global Scholars program. “Participants were inspired to value international connections, solutions, and culture as students showcased their international and enriched honors learning experiences and products. Eighty student presenters engaged with the community and over 165 people attended.”
This year, 84 students will participate in 27 presentations with topics such as “Living in Fear: Civilian Life of Ukraine,” “Building and Paving the Future with Plastic,” “International Health Care Jeopardy!,” “Phytoplankton and Zooplankton Diversity and Correlation” and “Helpers for Elders.”
The presentations and displays are the result of research and projects completed for biology, communications, English and leadership development courses. Visitors will be given passports that they can get stamped at each stop and souvenir luggage tags. A bilingual (English and Spanish) tour guide will be present.
