MOUNT OLIVE – University of Mount Olive junior Kamden Johnson was named as the indoor men’s track & field Conference Carolinas Winter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Presented by Hudl.
The scholar-athlete awards are awarded annually to one individual in each Conference Carolinas sponsored sport. The Scholar-Athlete of the Year winners are chosen by the Conference Carolinas Student-Athlete Affairs and Awards Committee. To be considered, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or higher. In addition, the nominees for the award must have been named all-conference in their sport and also chosen academic all-conference.
Johnson was selected the Conference Carolinas Field Athlete of the Year after claiming the league title in the high jump, while finishing second in the long jump. As a member of the Conference Carolinas championship team, he set a pair of NCAA provisional standards and won a total of five events throughout the entire indoor season. Additionally, Johnson was a USTFCCCA All-Region recipient in the high jump and long jump after establishing top-three marks in the Southeast Region.
A product of Northern Nash, Johnson boasts a 3.329 GPA while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He becomes the fifth straight recipient of the accolade for Mount Olive and the sixth UMO student-athlete to earn the award in indoor track & field.
