UMO men’s tennis drops league match against Barton

MOUNT OLIVE – After dropping the doubles sessions, the Trojans fell by a score of 5-2 versus Barton on Senior Day at John Neal Walker Tennis Center in Conference Carolinas action on April 4.

With the loss, the University of Mount Olive men’s tennis team fell to 9-7 overall in dual matches while holding a 3-2 mark in league play. Meanwhile, Barton improved to 7-8 this season behind a 4-1 record in conference action.

The Bulldogs secured the doubles points on Tuesday after sweeping all three matches. In the first position, junior Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira and senior Israel Rodriguez Rojas suffered a 6-3 loss against Wilhelm Karlsson and Johan Holgersson. Juniors Adam Ibrahim and Diego Ortega Cadahia dropped a 6-4 contest at No. 2 doubles to Philip Nordberg and Guille Busquets Brau. At the third slot, freshman Bram Poel and sophomore Elios Briand fell by a 7-6 (7-3) margin to Hannes Tylehed and Brad Beck.

Barton won four of the six singles matches to record the Conference Carolinas win. de Oliveira registered an impressive 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) win in the first position over Tylehed. Ibrahim suffered a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 loss in straight sets to Holgersson at No. 2 singles, while Rodriguez Rojas was dealt a 5-7, 7-6, 6-0 loss in the third slot to Nordberg. Poel rallied to win by a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 decision over Busquets Brau in the fourth position before freshman Oliver Winterhagen fell by a 6-1, 6-4 margin at No. 5 singles. Ortega Cadahia suffered a straight-set loss in the final match in the sixth slot by a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 decision to Beck.
