Mount Olive competes in Shamrock Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Senior Joshua Faison delivered a pair of top-three finishes on March 18, as the University of Mount Olive men’s track & field team competed on the final day of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.

Faison registered a second place finish in the discus with a mark of 52.47 meters on his final toss. He finished behind a Division I thrower from Duke, who set the Doug Shaw Stadium record in the event. Additionally, Faison reached a distance of 16.33 meters in the shot put to place third overall.

Sophomore Demonte Lavender registered a league qualifying mark after clearing 1.93 meters in the high jump to finish eighth in the event.

In the 4×400 relay, sophomore Riley Willcox, junior Joshua Morell, freshman Jason Hart and sophomore Andrew Nixon posted the third-fastest time in the event in the Conference Carolinas this season with a time of 3 minutes, 26.55 seconds. Additionally, Willcox recorded a conference championship mark in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:05.89, which ranks third in the league during the outdoor season.

Junior Jontavus Walker reached the conference qualifying mark in the 400 meters after crossing the line at 49.58 seconds, which is the fastest time in the Conference Carolinas this year.

In the shot put, sophomore Nicholas Cloud  improved his league mark in the shot put with a toss of 15.43 meters to place fifth in a field of about 70 throwers.
