Leclercq places second; Mount Olive third overall

WILSON – Senior Emma Leclercq and junior Victoria Morelli finished in the top five overall on March 14, as the Trojans placed third in the team standings at the Barton Intercollegiate at the Wilson Country Club.

The University of Mount Olive women’s golf team shot a 69-over 645 (324-321) to earn third place. UNC-Pembroke won the tournament title by seven strokes after carding a 52-over 628 (310-318) over the two-day event. Emmanuel finished second in the team standings with a 59-over 635 (316-319) in a field of seven programs.

Leclercq leaped two spots on the individual leaderboard during the final round to finish runner-up with an eight-over 152 (77-75) while placing in the top five in the field with five birdies and 20 pars. She also played the par 5s on the course a combined five-under. Morelli placed fourth overall with a 14-over 158 (79-79) after carding 20 pars.

Senior Elise Davies earned a top-20 finish for the first time this spring, as she finished 14th with a 20-over 164 (79-85) with three birdies and 15 pars. Freshman Nele Halbach tied for 23rd overall with a 29-over 173 (89-84) with 14 pars, and teammate Violette Daudin rounded out the team entries with a 33-over 177 (94-83) to place 29th.

Freshman Alexis Lewis competed as an individual and shot a 49-over 193 (90-103) to finish 32nd overall.
