Trojans place trio on all-conference teams

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive men’s wrestling program featured a program-record three individuals on the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas All-Conference Teams on Thursday morning.

Redshirt freshman Dallas Wilson was selected first-team all-conference in the 149 weight class and became the first UMO wrestler to garner first-team status. Redshirt senior Nico Ramirez (285) and redshirt freshman Taylor Robinson (133) received second-team honors from the conference. All three individuals garnered all-conference laurels for the first time in their careers at Mount Olive.

A native of Stedman, Wilson produced a stellar 25-4 overall record, including a perfect 10-0 mark against conference opponents. He became a first-time NCAA qualifier following a third-place finish at regionals behind a 4-1 record. Wilson also finished the regular season as the No. 11 ranked wrestler in the country at 149 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA). This season, he became the first UMO wrestler to reach the podium at the Midwest Classic with an eighth-place finish. Wilson heads to the national stage having won 11 of his last 12 bouts on the mat.

A five-time NCAA qualifier, Ramirez, from Belfair, Wash., compiled a 14-11 record at heavyweight this year with a 6-2 mark in league dual meets. He placed second overall in the NCAA Super Regional II tournament after advancing to the finals. Ramirez transferred to UMO for his final year of eligibility after being a three-time All-American at Southern Virginia University, a Division III institution. He heads to the NCAA Championships with an 8-1 record over his last nine matches.

Following an outstanding performance at regionals, Robinson, from Williamsport, N.J., became a first-time NCAA qualifier. He finished second overall in Super Region II after advancing to the finals and racked up a 10-10 overall record this season. Robinson also placed third overall at the Pembroke Classic behind a 5-1 record.
