No. 40 Mount Olive collects win over WVWC

MOUNT OLIVE – The No. 40 ranked University of Mount Olive men’s tennis program posted a 6-1 win over the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan on March 9 at the John Neal Walker Tennis Center.

With the win, UMO improved to 6-4 this season.

The Trojans started strong in doubles sweeping all three sessions to earn the point. In the first position, the No. 24 ranked duo of junior Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira and freshman Daniel Hammond. Juniors Adam Ibrahim and Diego Ortega Cadahia followed suit in the second slot winning 6-4, before sophomore Elios Briand and freshman Bram Poel won with a 6-2 margin.

Mount Olive continued to dominate in singles play registering five out of six wins. In first singles, Hammond won 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) before Ibrahim lost by a 6-1, 6-1 count. In the third slot, senior Israel Rodriguez Rojas outplayed his opponent 7-6 (7-4), 7-5, while Poel won at No. 4 singles with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6). In the fifth position, freshman Kabir Chhabria tallied a 6-1, 6-3 win. Ortega Cadahia completed the team victory with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 win.

Furthermore, two exhibition matches were played: Briand captured a 6-1, 6-3 win while junior Khushal Mehta suffered a 6-2, 6-2 loss.
